The following Web writing rubric identifies characteristics that we consider to be the most significant not just to us, but to professionals. Read carefully. Points are awarded based on which category your work falls under, Unsatisfactory, Proficient and Exemplary. If you find yourself falling short of expectations, then make an opportunity to see us for help.

Criteria
Web Writing
* Does not know when to end a piece. Misses deadlines.
*Does not understand snappy writing. Misses the point of the story.
* Does not check all spelling
* Does not communicate with the rest of the team.
* Used slug as a headline
* Wording and structure of story is too similar to what was written in the script
* Shows little evidence of using AP Style
Proficient Range (4.8.9)
* Deadline deadline deadline. Gets caught up with using just the right phrase. This is not poetry.
* May have trouble getting the story written clearly with a good lead line and nut graph, but gets the job done.
* Meets deadline but doesn’t understand length and how to wrap up.
* Decent lead line. Quotes are either too few, too long or out of place.
* Shows some evidence of conforming to AP Style
Exemplary (9-10)
* Transitions from broadcast writing to web writing on deadline.
* Writes clearly and is precise
* Communicates with the rest of the team to get spellings and pronunciations correct.
*Makes quick changes when needed.
* Excellent lead line. Clear nut graph. Uses quotes appropriately.
* Conform to AP Style
