Creating Facebook and Twitter Stories
Quick Start Guide to Creating a New Rundown
You can create Facebook and Twitter content from existing broadcast stories easily. When you do so, Inception creates what is known as a story family where the original broadcast story attributes are inherited into the new format.
The following attributes are inherited:
- Slug - the same slug is used from the original broadcast story.
- Content - content from the original broadcast story is applied to the new story. Therefore, the same text used in the broadcast story can be used for the Facebook and Twitter stories.
- First, in either the Rundown or the Story Browser panel, double-click the story. Doing so will open the story in the Story Editor panel.
- In the Story Editor panel, click Add Format.
Under Add Format, click the story type that you want to add. e.g., Facebook or Twiiter
The Story Editor panel is now ready for you to start adding content.

But first, you need to point the Facebook or Twitter content to the proper account. Make sure to select NewsTeam Boulder.

The same content in the current broadcast story will show up in the Body of the new story. From here, you can proceed to edit the content, making sure that it's suitable for Facebook or Twitter. You can type up to 1000 characters in Facebook and 140 characters in Twitter. The Character and Word Count in the lower left portion of the Story Editor panel tells you how many characters and words remain.

You can upload media items (videos or photographs) by clicking under Media Source. Browse to select the desired items and upload.
Save often!
Before a Facebook or Twitter story can be published it must first be approved by your instructor. Upon approval, there are two options for publishing: one option allows you to publish immediately upon approval and the other will let you set a schedule for publishing at a later date and time. These options are visible in the lower right portion of the Story Editor panel.

Click on Schedule to set the date and time.

You can also publish the Facebook or Twitter story at the same time the broadcast story gets published. From the Story Editor panel, click on the Drag icon and then drag to the rundown, releasing in the story. Inception will parent the broadcast and Facebook (or Twitter) stories, which will look like this in the rundown.

The icon to the left tells you whether it's a Facebook or Twitter story. As long as it's approved, the Facebook or Twitter story will be published at the same time the broadcast story airs.
